300+ Days on the Road With Bellacosa
Looking back at whirlwind that was 2016, people have asked me, “Where did this all begin?”
I passed around a few bottles, spread the word to friends and critics, and pretty soon, Bellacosa was creating a buzz all its own.
So I hit the road in 2016, and when I did, I honestly had no idea Bellacosa would get this big so fast. I had a good feeling, of course, although Bellacosa and the impact it had on wine-lovers and on my own life this year was beyond what I could have imagined. As the wine poured out, the praise poured in…and I’m not slowing down. Clocking over 308 days of the year on the road, spreading the joy, one bottle at a time.
The Big News on This Beautiful Wine
When you make something, you think it’s beautiful, undeniably. taking what you’ve made and sharing it with the world is exhilarating. I couldn’t wait to share Bellacosa. I didn’t know if the world would appreciate the wine for everything it truly is.
So it has been nothing short of amazing for me that as more and more people tried Bellacosa, the more good reviews and great news spread. Then the good news started turning into big news: high ratings, impeccable scores, and even a Top Ten win. And here we are, with a lot to be proud of and excited about, heading into 2017.
Here are a few of the 2016 highlights…the 2016 buzz at-a-glance:
Tasting Panel Magazine gave us a 94 rating and a spread in their August issue, which was a smooth finish to a full-bodied summer of hard work and Bellacosa pourings all over the country. I enjoyed the write-up that went along with it, in which their tasting panel noted, “Deep, earthy chocolate notes invigorate the palate. Raspberry painted on blueberry painted on blackberry makes for layers of sumptuous fruit, with a juiciness that goes to the max. The acidity is just right and pinpoints the pleasure principle for pairing with duck, grilled meats and cheese.” The entire piece was on-point, and the 94 rating—was incredible.
Acclaimed critic Wilfred Wong gave Bellacosa a 91 rating, noting that Bellacosa “stays long and delectable on the palate,” and its “red and black fruit flavors match well with lighter as well as with richer meat entrées.”
Robert Parker, another fan of Bellacosa, didn’t bother hiding his enjoyment of Bellacosa either. His exact words were that it was “a delicious supple, and savory wine that defies the Napa pricing game.” I plan to defy more than just that with the new release I have coming up, and I can’t wait to get a bottle of that one into Robert’s (and many others’) hands.
Fans love Bellacosa, and their numbers are growing. Bellacosa following online and on social channels tripled in just the last six months of 2016—all of the fans sharing the love for Bellacosa, their unique Bellacosa stories, and photos of their experiences with the wine. Such a good energy out there for such a great wine.
To put a hell of a grand finale on the year, Bellacosa was named one of the Top Ten Hot Wine Brands of 2016 by Wine Business. I’m excited, so cheers to everyone involved in the making of the wine, the journey and the stories that made this honor possible. I’m just getting started, friends.
And last but not least, the Bellacosa following posted more than 780 ratings (and counting) on Vivino.com, averaging 4+ stars. For a Cabernet Sauvignon first release, that’s not something to scoff at. The reviews contained many “love at first sip” and “this wine made our evening” types of stories. That’s crazy to me: people getting together with their favorite people in the world, celebrating some pretty amazing things, and yet the wine was the highlight of the evening. That’s what I like to see…someone enjoying the wine in exactly the way it was intended to be.
2017’s Brave New Release: Not for the Faint of Heart
Bellacosa is the wine that acts as a subtle force that draws people together, creating lasting moments and stories.
But 2017 ushers in a brave new wine, and it’s not for the faint of heart. It’s a high-end Oakville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon: the Bellacosa Oakville Reserve, which is my thank-you to everyone who supported me in the launch of Bellacosa. It’s a tribute to every single hand and heart that helped create an outstanding year of interesting travels, riveting acquaintances and unforgettable stories with me. The Oakville Reserve is so flawless, I cannot wait for the 300 days of new adventure to follow that release.
